Default Valextra Babila Bag

Valextra Babila Bag
Valextra Babila Bag in Oyster

I receive countless emails daily asking me what brand to buy that is not over-done, over-logoed, and classic. Of course there are Hermes bags and Lambertson Truex (my new obsession), and of course many of the exotic handbag designer specialists. But there is another gem out of Italy, a little known gem that you may know about, but not know about. It is Valextra. Valextra handbags exude a look of clean lines, timeless appeal, and impeccable quality. They are a little known gem for the work that they do, but a gem is still a gem. We have covered Valextra Bags before and now I am happy to bring you a new addition to the Valextra family for Fall/Winter 08. The Valextra Babila Bag is designed with soft leather and is available in a variety of colors. The shape is simple, yet perfect for work and day-to-day wear. It is the kind of bag that is so simple yet so elegant that it needs to explanation. There are no logos to be found on the bag. Just clean lines. There is a zipper top closure and double shoulder straps. The bag is available in brilliant green, tundra, and oyster. The price will be $ 2,380 and this bag and other Valextra bags can be found at Barney's NY (212.833.2583) or find more information at Valextra online.

That green color is TDF..but I have to agree, it's a bit boring, and I'm all about clean lines with minimal hardware.

Its simple and I like the clean lines, but it is borderline boring. Its more functional than anything else to me and perhaps works better for someone who wants a well made bag but doesnt care too much about the fashion aspect of it.

The green color is pretty but nothing else is grabbing me.

Call me boring but, I love this bag.
Actually, I love just about every Valextra bag out there.
Ladies and Gentlemen, no, I have not succumb to the lure that is marketing - I just simply think that Valextra speaks to me in a glamorous way.
I agree the construction is very much simple however, it's quite difficult to pull-off a simple bag; each flaw in itself is maximized a thousand fold. Each stray stitch or unmeasured edge cut is amplified.
I am a firm believer that a bag should not be filled with "bells and whistles" - it simply should work.
I have found that many people compare Valextra to being the Italian Hermès but, I think that couldn't be further from the truth.
Valextra is what it is, and Hermès is in a class of its own - they are two separate brands catering to two separate people, though both have immaculate construction and execution.
When it comes down to it, both companies have more in common than they do differences - it's all about the craft.
My friends, why can't we just all get along??

I quite like the bag particular the oyster color. Looks very well made and the use of good leather. Seems like a very good choice and a classic style, can bring me from day to night. But I think I can go without it...for now.

I agree.

It's not so much that I don't like the bag it's just that I see a variation of it every day all the time. And it's not particularly appealing to me at all.

I special ordered this bag in orange and just received it a couple of weeks ago. It was so fabulous that I just bought it in oyster too. What a great color!!! It is similar to Hermes etoupe - kind of a gray/brown color that goes with everything and is not the same old standby for winter (i.e. black.) You really have to see this bag in person and try it on. The photos don't do it justice.

I had been an exclusive Valextra girl for the last year or so, and started buying Hermes about a month ago. I love my H pieces (two Massais, three Karos and a Calvi case), but my Valextras get attention almost every time I wear them - without fail. I think, ironically, their extreme simplicity makes them stand out in the crowd.

I like the bag in oyster, but my list of "wants" is so long that this would be near the bottom.
