i've been experiencing the same problems with the "made in china" fact. I think it's too much for such cheap labor! Also, when it comes to handbags it makes a HUGE difference on where it has been made. I have 2 bags (very well know designers- not high end)... but they are also made in china- and i can see that after a couple of uses... they're breaking down.

that's strange. i bought a treesje messenger bag from last year and tags said it was made in la. it has silver hardware and rhinestones. it's really soft leather -- like gustto. i'm happy with it.
when i get compliments or questions about who made the bag i say it's "tree-schay" as that's how the boutique owner who originally sold it to me pronounced it. there's a thread around here on tpf and like "botkier" there's several different translations on how to properly pronounce it. regardless, treesje makes a cool bag that i know isn't on everyone's shoulder. ![]() |

I really like the London Hobo, but for the fact that it's made in China...I'll pass.

That monaco satchel that was featured in the email LB sent out the other day was really eye catching! Both the great style and the beautiful ocean color.

Sorry to say this but most American brands have their products made in China.....not just the bags. But now almost all the brands you can think of are literally made there. Even the designers in Treesje admitted that during purseblog's interview:
PB: We see a bit of a tendency that people like to have their bags made in the USA from designers like yourselves. Are you planning on doing that or is that not viable? Treesje: Financially I do not think it is possible. Right now, a lot of people are price conscious. They want the awesome bag in the $500-$600 price range. If you start producing the bags in the USA, which we actually were doing before, the bags will start running into the $1000's of dollars. It is hard to do that now though.

Regarding the China comments, I would much rather see all consumer goods made in the USA. There is some decent production done here on lesser heard of lines but most designers are now sourcing all over the world in order to keep costs down.
One thing a lot of people don't know is that most all of the time the leather used in the bags like Treesje is actually from Italy. Italian leather is still the finest quality in the world. Chinese workmanship (and that in many other countries) has gotten pretty darn good in most cases. Sure there are some shoddy ones there and there are also some pretty bad Italian handbags being made out there. The US dollar got so weak, so fast that that designers are forced to look to other places to source their product. Treesje makes excellent handbags and I find it refreshing to see some new styles that are not copy cats!!!! Treesje = ![]() ![]() |
