Default Fashion Week Handbags: Hermes
In case you have previously considered the idea of wearing a $10,000 purse as a gym bag and ruled it out, Hermes would apparently like you to rethink that decision.

John Galliano’s entire Hermes Spring 2010 collection was a riff on country club chic, and enormous Kellys and Birkins as workout wear, replete with leather tennis ball carriers, were the icing on top of the luxe-prepster cake. Obviously the idea that a white travel Kelly should be slung around the local tennis court is in jest, but the aesthetic does work nicely with the ultraclean lines of Hermes’s signature bags.

Overall, though, I didn’t find myself nearly as blown away as I usually do when looking at a series of the world’s finest handbags. I have wondered before why Hermes doesn’t use more snakeskin in their line, and the oversized python Birkins answered that quite nicely – it just doesn’t work. All of the snakeskin bags looked rumpled and, dare I say it, fake. Unless there’s a point that I’m missing, I’m surprised that Galliano let them walk the runway.

Overall, I find myself a little underwhelmed. The exotic clutches were predictably drool-inducing, and the tennis influence that found its way into the accessories line is very appropriate for brand whose customers probably all count themselves as members of various country clubs. But with the resources and craftsmanship that Hermes has at their disposal, I was hoping for a bit more.

Hermes has always stayed in my dream and hopefully one day I will be able to own one. I totally agree with you, their Spring 2010 line is a little bit disappointing. Maybe those new new bags are for those ladies already have tons of Birkins and now need Hermes for going to the gym or country clubs. But I cannot imagine they will be the one as gals like me to own as their first Birkin.

Never liked the design of the Kelly or Birkin at all.

I love this clutch...

Gosh it's beautiful. I love the style of it, I saw an off white/cream color version IRL once and fell in love. Oh if only I could afford it.

I love all the H clutches, actually. And I'm glad to see Hermes is creating their own version of sports gear (the Chanel sports equipment were gorgeous too). I can't see myself carrying a $10K bag to a gym (risky and gets the bag in a yucky, smelly sweaty odor too). But everything looks pretty, but I can understand why some are disappointed.

I like some Hermes bags, but they lose all appeal and elegance when they're the size of suitcases. They look awful (to me), and I would feel ridiculous carrying those.

Still trying to understand the fascination with these bags other than their exclusivity and price.

I especially love the white one with the tennis ball holder (first picture shown), but I don't think it's in the cards for me. First of all, I don't play tennis.........so it's totally impractical!!!!!!!!!LOL

I know they have to keep reworking the major money makers, but not a fan.

The birkin gym bag just looks rumpled with that canvas.

Galliano?

Anyways, I agree I didn't like the slouchyness at all the leather looks paper thin.
