^^^ Vegas?!!! YAY! I guess I would be a bad buddy if I told you all the great things you should eat. Anyway, you will be walking a ton so that should help balance things out a bit. I hope you have a great time!

Elizat- That sucks about the injury. I'm glad you are doing better and now you can join us in our crusade!

On book talk, those of you that read the Jonathan Strange book by Susanna Clark- when does it get interesting?! I cannot get into it at all. I'm only into the first few chapters and I have to say, it is dull as dirt. Does it get better or should I just drop it?
That sounds terrible elizat, glad you've made a full recovery.

As for the Jonathan Strange book, I hoped to start into it weeks ago but haven't had a chance yet, so don't know. Think Jenova has read it though?
Did you drop it or persevere and if you carried on, did it get any better?

^ Hi CB! Did you ever try any of those recipes, BTW?

No, I have not tried again... I read everything and anything, but I cannot get into this book at all. If I knew it got better, I'd press on, you know?

I have been reading The Harper Connelly (spelling?) books by Charlaine Harris (same writer for Sookie Stackhouse) for just fun things. I like the series. Also listening to the unabridged version Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, which I really am enjoying. I have the Time Traveler's Wife to read next up.

I just received the whole set of Charlaine Harris books from a friend. You'll have to let me know what you think. Between work and TPF it's hard to find time to read, but if they are great books I will definitely foind the time.

It is one of my favourite books of all time but that might be because I am English and a Jane Austen fan. I recognise most of the places, the historic events that are being adapted and the little jokes the author is playing.

I found them fun to start with but thought they got lazy and repetitive after a while.

elizat I'm afraid my culinary skills have 'gone to pot' recently. DS (aged 11 and who has always been picky) has suddenly gone mad for food, but won't have anything tomatoey. DH is doing frequent competitive running or training, shoving a sandwich into him on the way home from work and then having a dinner when finishes, usually quite late. I've been trying to diet and trying (not terribly successfully truth be told) to go for low-cal options. What this usually means is that I end up doing 2-3 different dinners. Not all the time, but enough to be a real pita!

I'm going to have a go at Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell shortly so will be sure to comment.

I had an unfortunate setback this weekend. We had way way too many parties and festivals to go to and I'm afraid I cheated in a BIG way!!!! I had a great time, but I am terrified that I won't ever attain my goals at this rate. I will say that I have at least worked out every day, so the scale may have suffered a setback but my clothes are fitting better.

Wait. I was at the Jazz & Ribfest downtown this past weekend and I did the Picktown Violet Festival with Starship playing on Saturday. Do you mean Ptown is doing another one? Did you end up going to any of them? I really wanted to hit the Parade of Homes with my girlfriends, but DH kept me away for fear of me coming up with yet another home improvement project for him!

It's darn near impossible to be good in Vegas. I can never resist the crepes at that chocolate fountain place in the Bellagio. Also, the Italian Gelato in the Ceaser's shopping area is so yummy, but DH and I still tell the story about how they charged us almost $50 for a couple scoops! Oops, I don't mean to make anyone hungry.

I hope the walking helped a little. Now get back on that treadmill, girl! Playtime is OVER!

Yep, Ptown has a festival this weekend, only on Saturday from 11am to 11pm. It's similar to the Jazz and Ribfest downtown I think. I wish I would have gone downtown last weekend, but I was on-call and had to be available to run anesthesia in case I got a call from the hospital... which I surprisingly did not get a call. I figured for sure that someone's dog would swallow a rib bone from the festival and need to have surgery.
