Hi Ladies,
I'm being curious today and thinking gosh our forum has been so incredibly quiet lately. I knew it was quiet during summer but thought perhaps before the holiday's things would pick up again. Hm.... Tell me, are there styles that you've outgrown? Here's what often happens with me (and definetely not just with BE). I"ll receive a new handbag and wear it for the first couple weeks. My first impression is normally quite positive and I'm thrilled. Well, then after a couple months or perhaps longer I"ll start to realize all the little things that I didn't notice in the beginning. For instance, the strap doesn't stay put on my shoulder or the bag is too heavy. And trust me this happens with ALL my designer bags not just BE. I"d love to know what styles you've outgrown OR the styles that you haven't for that matter and have withstood the test of time! For instance, my weekender has been a staple in my collection for years. I"ll NEVER outgrow and can't imagine travel without my set. For my "go to" bag I've found lately I"m reaching for my hold me. I love the ease and simplicity of this style. I've moved away from the following for my everday handbag: Heavy bags If the shoulder straps won't stay put Boxy styles Drawstring's - I can't seem to find the right balance with having them open/closed and I find myself struggling with too often. Rolled Handles And I"m enjoying more simple/carefree styles. The hold me is truly a great example!

I know what you mean about outgrowing bags. I only buy a bag or two a year though, so by the time I've outgrown them, they're not really worth anything in the resale market, and I'm usually kind of emotionally attached to them!
I have a Marc Jacobs red buckle bag, I think it's called Sophia. I think I outgrew that one mostly because it was such a popular bag that I just feel like it's 'over'. I still love my Chloe Bay, but the weight is killing me. I love how it looks, but boy it is HEAVY. |

I was just thinking the other day that most of my BE bags are hard to outgrow
![]() Usually if I've had something for a year or longer, I find myself using it less or possibly not loving it as much. However, I find my BEs to be aging very well and some of them I love even more than when I first got them. I do think I prefer satchel styles (Charm Me Mini, I'm Beautiful) to the Love Me Midi, which I first thought would be my all time favorite bag. I still love my LMM but reach for my CM more. I am still stunned every time I bring out my WTM Midi (choc sheen), I adore my WTM Mini and my choc Hug Me (first BE I ordered) still gives me great joy. I actually think my problem is that I find BEs hard to get over/give up. Today I took my MMS Midi out after a long time of not carrying it. I was feeling a bit blah about it for a while but I put it on and it was love all over again. I used to have this unhealthy obsession over what to give up next and what to replace it with, but the BEs in my collection have kept me happier than many other bags I have owned in the past. |

Hi Lovebags -- do you still use your YSL Muse or was it Downtown? Or did you sell?
It is not that I outgrow a bag, rather, I get rid of bags that don't work for me anymore, for whatever reason. I have bags that would be considered vintage -- old Mulberry, LV, Gucci that I still use and get a thrill everytime I use them. I agree with HipNYMom that I think my BE keepers WILL turn into my favorite vintage collection. My TME in Purple Crash looks better the more worn it gets. That's the one I use for airplane travel. And I love pulling it out everytime I go on a trip, and I get a thrill using it, because it is so light, so big, and the color is alluring. I can't see ever getting rid of my Black Pebble TME Midi because it is such a classic, slouchy shoulder bag. My two new bags, that have yet to arrive: Port IB Midi will be a classic satchel and laptop bag, and the Root Enchant Me will be my hobo. Hobos never go out of style. Every season, you see "new" hobos. The Clutch Me is such a classic design, I can't ever see getting rid of those. So, really, I think I'm very happy. But maybe I've gotten to the age where I know my style. For instance, I never bought a Hug Me, because I knew it was not going to work for me. I had one MMS Midi that I gave away because my go-to satchel is a Mulberry Bayswater in Oak that I will never part with. The Rock Me and TMA are simply too big for me too. So, I'm experimenting less and making very targeted purchases. |

I think the only BE Style that I have "outgrown" is the Love Me, I had one of each size but I took a dislike to the straps. I sold the Large and the Small and have replaced my midi with TME handles which work better for me.
The only other BE's I have re-homed are because of the colour, My Choco Hug me was too similar to my Roxanne and I am thinking of moving my Black Crash TME midi on as DH can't stand the leather on it. |

I am not sure about this. I had a whole string of Mulberry bags that I thought I had outgrown but when I got them out again after a couple of years I fell back in love with most of them again and couldn't part with them. My affection for my Love Mes had waned during the summer months when they seemed too big and cumbersome but suddenly I am red hot for them again. It is my open top bags such as my Stroke Me and Hold Mes that I am not keen on using now but I bet that I will come back to them next year. I think that everything goes in cycles so parting with bags too soon is a good way of being parted with my money.

Yes, I agree with you about the LM style. It's too cumbersome/boxy of a style for my day bag but who knows maybe someday I"ll return to it like your doing. I still have my choco matte for sentimental reasons. I don't think I'll ever part with that bag since the LM was my first into to BE. I"ll keep that bag forever even if I never wear it. LOL And I"ve defintely moved away from hardware. Years ago I loved it - go figure. Jenova you raised an excellent point about parting with your money too prematurely. I'll tell you one thing that as remained a constant for me besides my hold me's and weekender set - MY ANGEL PURSE, PROTECT ME and SPM! I don't think I'll ever outgrow those and I absolutely can't wait for more BE accessories. TG - My downtown didn't survive the final cut in my collection. See I told you it's not just BE style's. |

Hi TG, You know that's a really good question! The other day I purchased a gorgeous bag in a small shoe boutique and do you know I can't even recall the designer's name. Gorgeous bag in a deep shade of burgundy. I"ll try to post a picture for you to see. Very simple, casual and yet classic! A couple months ago I purchased a lovely Cole Haan bag. I"m very happy with the style especially for the value. It's your basic black hobo. And over the summer I indulged in a couple Coach bags (Parker and another pretty style). As for my BE's. I really don't have many left. I"ve sold/gifted most of them. I do still enjoy my WTM's but I"m reserving those more for travel days or weekends since I just can't struggle with the drawstrings anymore on a daily basis. They're too fussy for me especially when I need something quick. I still have a couple large hug me's that I"m holding onto for travel days since the style is too large/heavy for my day bag. I really don't have an exotic collection. I pared it down drastically and now I"m all about buying a great handbag when I see it in my travels. I feel justified in doing so since I've done a splendid job if I do say so myself in streamlining my collection. And boy was that a process TG! |

But, I will share with you my reasons why I sold my deerskin YSL. Actually I sold two (a tan and black): The shoulder straps weren't comfortable. I often find this occurs with two straps and they never stayed put. That's such a deal breaker for me and unfortunately why I've shyed away recently from several of my BE's. Also it was a tall bag. And that's something I struggle with since I like to locate my items quickly. You just never know when a Starbuck's drive thru will call my name for something yummy! ![]() Lastly, I noticed that the shape would change significantly depending on how much I had filled it with my contents. I like more of a "consistent" style if that makes any sense. I know you really shouldn't go by me since I"m such a fussy person. I"m sure if you go on the YSL forum they will have lovely things to say about this bag and would enjoy helping you. They're very friendly there too. |

P.S. I've also learned something about which styles I"m more likely to "outgrow" versus not. If it's simple I tend to keep for the duration. For instance, everyone knows upon first glance I thought the SPM might've been too simple. Wrong! Simple wins the race with me every time.
On the flip side, upon first glance I fell for my LM with all the hardware and now look..... And can you really get any more simple of a handbag then my stunning dark purple Hold Me? Or my choco matte weekender set? Who knew? |

Interesting thread. I'm just getting into BE and have my eyes on a couple of bags, so I'll have to wait and see if I outgrow any of them, which is likely kuz I tend to get bored with everything: jobs, homes, places, things, people... There are so many bags that I thought I would be married to forever only to file for divorce soon after I was at the peak of my infatuation with them. So now I just accept as a fact of life that while I can be in love with a bag today, I might be out of love with it tomorrow, and I make sure I enjoy it while I have it.

I find too when I might outgrow one style for a particular reason that it might help me enjoy another style even more. It's all good! |

I just ordered my 6th BE bag since Nov of last year. At this point I wouldn't part with any of them. I am really happy with each style and leather combo. I do not duplicate styles or leathers (yet, but have been tempted with the sales). I rotate my bags frequently (at least twice a week) and always look forward to when I get to carry each one again. I get a compliment EVERYTIME I carry my plum crash or pewter bag. These leathers are really special. So far so good, haven't grown tired yet of a single BE bag:)
