Wow. Hopping on this thread late, but just wanted to zip in my opinion. First off, I do want to say that I am happy to see that the wide variety of opinions is being respected by all. It says a lot about the forum to me.

I think that the referral competiton is a really nice, fun idea for those who are comfortable enough and would want to participate. Point is -- it's totally voluntary! If it's a gift you have -- then this is an opportunity to share it! We need to remember that BE doesn't have the name that say, Bottega Veneta, does. BV's, Bals, Chanels, LV's etc. -- sell themselves. Jackie, on the other hand, in order to keep BE sailing along, needs to come up with interesting and fun marketing strategies -- especially if the prices are to be kept reasonable. I think it's perfectly fine for her to involve the part of the loyal fan base that would want to participate and enjoy a competition in this process. If you're a loyal fan and you don't want to participate, that's cool too. Point is -- there are cups of tea for everyone -- and no pressure to drink. It's just kind of nice that Jackie brews it for us, isn't it? I've never had a cup of tea at a BV boutique, come to think of it...just a lot of sky high prices with no sales nor fun incentives in site...really hard to swallow...unlike delicious Earl Grey...

Sorry about the tea analogy -- it's in no way supposed to be a "British" analogy, nor any kind of reference regarding Boston nor the early colonization of the U.S. I'm just craving a cup (with lemon and honey, please!) to go with this afghan and book (Willa Cather's "Song of the Lark") I'm enjoying at the moment!

^^ ITA. What you said pretty much sums up how I feel exactly - except for maybe I'd have used coffee for the analogy instead of tea

I think it would be a blast, too! I don't even know if I could do it, but like you, I think it would be so much fun - and fun looking at everyone else's.

Aside from the competition, I think the disppointment for some of the current fans, including myself, is simply not being able to join in on the 40% discount and free shipping. It's the best deal for new bags that I've seen from BE since I started buying BE bags. Plus, I think the current selection of bags is better than what was available in previous sales.

I still love BE bags.

I know it is hard to have to sit out the 40% off discount but in all honestly BE probably woudn't be able to stay afloat if they offered the 40% to everyone ... And think of it this way -- Jackie does take care of us at other times -- bespoke bliss, sample sales, offering 10% off first fall purchase, free shipping on all in stock bags, offering AP's with group bespokes, etc. I feel we are taken care of and I'm okay not being a part of pink tuesday in that respect....

I think you all are both right. Honestly, I was kind of disappointed that I could not participate in the sale. I'm relatively new to BE and I purchased a bag during the sample sale. I love shopping sales so when I saw the announcement about the suprise, I thought it was another opportunity. But my practical side tells me that I should not be too disappointed. I probably wouldn't have purchased anything big during the sale with the exception of an angel purse or something small so my participation in the sale wouldn't have been a big boon to Jackie anyway. My favorites - the LM and TMA - aren't offered this season.

I also understand that Jackie is running a business so she probably can't offer sales all of the time or she won't stay afloat.

we were waiting for the sale to start, and we have tried to put the code and it works! As the code is working, I think the purchase is going to be Ok, even if it is made a little before the hour...we are so excited!

I do understand your disappointment. But, I think your right. This is all about Jackie being able to expand and just stay afloat in this crazy economy!

And if I know Jackie, she'll have another amazing opportunity for you to grab a LM or TMA another time!

I"ve learned it's worthwhile being patient for my perfect BE!!!!

[That's true Lovebags2! Patience is a virtue! I think the TM and LM will be offered next season in amazing colors and I just snagged one off of e-bay.

I am late to this thread and missed all the excitement:)

I don't normally participate in competitions of this sort (I have never won anything in my life and would be shocked if I ever do LOL) so did not think about it too much. I didn't realize there would be some pretty strong feelings about it. I suppose BE, like every other company, needs to go through growing pains. At least we know they do their best and that they pay attention to feedback. Knowing our opinions actually matter to Jackie is both comforting and satisfying.

I would be thrilled to have the chance to design my own bag. I have loved bags forever and ever, and am a stickler for details. While I am pretty happy with my collection at the moment, I suppose there is always room for improvement
