Default Cervo Leather- Enquiry
Hi guys, I've never owned a bag made wih Deer skin. I'm thinking of buying the Enchant Me. But before that I'd love to get some info on Cervo leather. Could you please enlighten me on this leather, the use, strength, durability, cleaning methods etc. i'd appreciate it.

Thank you.

I believe we are incorrectly calling it cervo because it's easier than saying pebbled glossy luxe leather! LOL! Anyway, this leather is very durable, not easily scuffed or scratched with little upkeep. I haven't owned one for an extended period of time to know how it wears over the long haul but it was the most easy to care for leather that I've ever owned when I did have a bag made of this leather. I actually have a pre-loved bag in the chocolate pebbled glossy leather ('cervo') on the way and am very excited about it!

I believe that the pebbled glossy leather BE uses is calfskin but comes from the same tannery that does Prada's cervo. The BE pebbled luxe is often referred to as cervo but that's a bit misleading because it's not really "cervo" or deerskin.

The BE leather is soft, gorgeous, and much more resilient than the more delicate deerskin, from what I understand.

ETA: I have three pebbled luxe BE bags, but no Prada cervo. Am basing this on Lionlaw's observations.

I have the pebbled luxe leather in black, milk chocolate and wine and I can tell you that it is extremely slouchy and soft yet very hard-wearing. The leather tends to become glossier with age and does not mark or scratch easily. In fact I have yet to find a scuff/scratch on my bags. They are just a little heavier than the matte or glossy leathers but are a wonderful option if you want something beautiful and carefree. I have not treated my bags with anything and they are perfectly fine.

Hi there,

Cervo is the Italian word for Deerskin. It is also the word used to mean this particular type of pebbled leather by many Italian tanneries. When I first started using it, I had no idea that it meant "deerskin" in Italian. There are many, many different calf leathers named "cervo".

FYI it is my understanding from talking to tanneries and seeing the bags in person that Prada does not always use real deerskin. Some of it's bags it calls Cervo are actually calf skin. It is all rather confusing. But Italian tanneries love to create confusion!

All this said, we do also have potential access to real deerskin. It is much more expensive and it is rather delicate. And the tannery which makes it is rather hard to work with. I tried to order some a few weeks ago but the lead time was 6 weeks and there was nothing in stock.

Anyone who is interested in that could send us an email and we can see what we can do.

I personally would be interested in a deerskin smallish pouch. Yes I know it sounds a bit weird, but I have this lovely little cotton pouch from Kyoto - so simple (and I'll bet a bit less expensive!) and I love it to bits. I use it frequently, it's so handy for sticking a bit of money in, keys, lipstick and tissues etc. and then it's rope-like handles can just be wrapped around the hand and you can swing it when you walk. Love it!

I can definitely see this in a very neutral matte deerskin, think Sherwood Forest and I reckon some lovely braiding could be in order as well. You could even store jewellery in it. If money was no object I would love to shake diamonds out of it. But I can definitely recommend a pouch like this to give a certain edge to things coupled with a gorgeous natural beauty and nonchalance. I'd truely love it in deerskin!

^^^ Cute, CB. I could totally see how that could be useful. It reminds me of the little Crown Royal bag that my DH uses to carry his quarters to poker night with the boys.
