I see it more in terms of a duel - one for the sake of honour.

2 fit men in tight breeches and those loose white shirts with lacey cuffs meet in the mist by the river first thing in the morning.

They are accompanied by their seconds who are carrying the dustbags.

Out come the bags.........

............it is a fight to the death - tragic but noble!!!
