Hi, this is my first Bal post, though I have posted on some other subforums. I am 44 (45 in August) and got my first Bbag last Tuesday ('09 black City). I have stalked other subforums when I was interested in purchasing other bags (I tend to buy one of each, though it looks like I will never have an Hermes). I must say that the ladies on the Balenciaga subforum do seem really close and supportive.

I also would like to say how in awe I am of the way so many of you have risen to the challenge of special needs kids. My own 2 are 13 & 10 but do not have any special needs. Raising them is an effort in itself, so I must take my hat off to you who have to give even more to your kids! Enjoy the bags, you are all so worth it!

At first, when I saw the title of this thread, I thought "uh oh ... it's going to make me *reveal* ..." but as I read it, I was just laughing out loud!

Okay ... so, 45 years old this year ... no kids. I admire all of you ladies who have special needs children; I had a roommate in my single days who was a special needs teacher and she was the most patient & caring person I think I've ever met. I had the opposite ... a bi-polar and manic depressive mother who tried to take her life many times when I was a youngster and before they finally got her on the appropriate meds. My Dad was always on the road (he was in Sales), so even though there were 3 girls in my family (my oldest sister is 12 years older than me), it was just my (closer in age) sister and myself taking care of our mother ... not an easy task! But you know ... I've always felt very strongly that "whatever doesn't break you, makes you stronger" ... and as my Boss could probably attest, I can be a major-league b@ll buster when I want to!!

I started collecting Bal's in 2001/2002 ... because I saw a Parisian colleague with one and I admired it (and her style of course!). I'm in Institutional Investments/Finance (yes - boo hiss right now) and traveled and worked extensively in Europe for quite a few years. Those Weekenders sure came in handy during my trips (I also used to pack a City bag in my luggage - during the days when you could still LOCK your luggage!) ... and I always felt so stylin' when boarding that Air France jet (okay - British Airways too!).

BTW ... *Pilatesworks* - that is so fascinating that you lived by the Red Sea!!! My husband is a former Egyptologist who has lived and excavated in many parts of the middle east (of course Egypt); I've seen his pictures ... SO BEAUTIFUL!!! *Muggles* - you are hysterically funny ... I just LOVE the Broom bit!!!

FX, I think you are too! So nice to see you here, I love your collection of oldies -- fabulous. Whereabouts in Holland are you? (When I was a kid we used to drive to Holland sometimes to fill up on cheaper petrol and enjoy hot chips ...) I was born in '64 too.

LOL, I don't eat hot chips anymore either, you can't get away with those things anymore when you're in your 40s. Great news about quitting smoking though.

I was born in Zurich but grew up in Düren, close to Aachen. I don't know your town, must look it up. I'm now on the other side of the world, have lived in New Zealand since '83. (New Zealand is named after Zeeland by Dutchman Abel Tasman who was the first European to discover this beautiful land.)

Good for you, FX! I'm so happy you quit smoking. I know it is so hard, but you will live so much better now.

Girls and Guys, I am in awe of all of you. I'm so glad everyone is sharing something special and unique in their lives with all of us.

A little bit about me. As I said before, I'm 52, soon to be 53. I am married - to a man I adore. And he adores me.

My family is from Kentucky - farmers. My dad was in the Navy, and we moved a lot until I started junior high. When he retired, we moved back to Kentucky, and my dad started farming - as his mother had done before him. My grandmother owned over 1000 acres in northern Kentucky, and over time, the parcels that are still in the family only consist of about 200. I have 45 acres and a home there, in addition to our home in Cincinnati. I love my land in Kentucky - I have such a strong connection to it.

My DH is a city boy, and he is clueless about anything involving the "earth." He is so funny when we go to the farm, and if we are talking to the neighbors about anything involving farming/cattle/irrigation. He grew up in the city, Cincinnati, and though that might be a small city, he was still in the city, on bus lines, and next to the University of Cincinnati, so his whole experience was totally different than mine. He told me once that when he was young he had to mow his yard, and it was hard. Well, one day he took me by the house he grew up in, and the front yard was like a postage stamp, and the back yard wasn't much bigger! I had mowed a yard that was probably a quarter acre, along with driving a tractor, plowing fields, baling hay, housing tobacco, etc. So funny!

DH and I have two children combined. We didn't have children together, but we each have one child from previous marriages. We each had a son. I had my son when I was 17, and I never had another child. (Yes, I regret this now.) However, history repeats itself, and my son had a daughter when he was 17. My DH and I have had full custody of her since she was six years old. When I talk about my DD on the PF, that is who I'm talking about, because she is my daughter in my mind. She thinks of me as her mom, and the person who is always there for her. My DD was sexually abused by her mother's boyfriend when she was very little, and DD does not have much contact with the biological mother at this point.

Many of you know that I'm an attorney - non-practicing now, but still keep up my license in case I would ever want to take on a case or do something else. I have no desire to ever practice law again. It is a nice thing to have, a law degree, and I'm glad I have it.

My life is very good right now. We are all healthy and we work very hard. We appreciate everything in our life, and we try to help people everyday.

And that is a little bit about me. :)
