Question Blue Bbag Owners, Advice Needed!
I'm a recent Bal convert (Mandarin PT ) and looking for my next Bal purchase (Giant Folder in Maldives), however I do have some concerns. I'd appreciate blue Bbag owners to give me their feedback!

I love blue which is why I'm attracted to the Maldives color and want it to be my next purchase. I'm scared to go through with it because of the many posts in the forum about the fading/yellowing of Balenciaga light blue bags. Despite the problems, I see a lot of people continue to order light blue Bbags.

1)
For all current blue Bbag owners, have you noticed a significant change of color in your Bbag?
2) How long have you had your blue bbag & does it see much sun?
3)
Will a BBag in the Maldives color be a good long-term purchase or will I regret it as time strips the color away?

Keep in mind I live in the Middle East and so the bag will be exposed to a lot
of sunshine for most of the year. I would love your feedback even though the thought of never buying a blue Bbag makes me sad!

Attached is the Maldives pic Addy posted of the 2009 S/S Main Collection, the bag I am torn about.

I would get your dream bag and super protect her with LMB´s silk serum, feel soft and "pro-treatment" (this one very important...) once every two weeks at least, then I think you´ll be able to keep the color so good... try if you can to avoid direct or long time sunshine exposure on her.

I talked to my SA and found out that Maldives (Or any other lighter colors for that matter) WILL fade with use. And handles will darken etc. But of course, use AG?

I don't own any (light) blue bbags currently but I'm going to go ahead and get Maldives still because its so pretty! But I'm getting a First which is pretty small and thus hopefully colors variation will not be too obvious?

I guess with a bag that you will use quite a bit, you should probably consider a color that is very saturated like Officier or other non-pale colors? Sad isn't it? WHY DO SUCH BEAUTIFUL COLORS FADE

Sorry I'm of no help

I have never seen Maldives IRL, but I HAVE heard people's concerns about blue bags fading with time. Very pale blues seem especially vulnerable. I have a Teal City and no probs so far. However, it's under a year old and well-protected. So maybe that's your best bet - protect your lovely bag!

I know someone who has a sky blue bag and its fading.. shes feeling kinda jilted about the bag which is a real shame. Im so scared about fading/ dirty handles that I've decided to steer clear from light colours..as beautiful as they are,i am terribly fussy bout my bbags getting dirty!

My Electric Blue City faded within 2 months of regular use in the UK Spring which is not very sunny. I imagine that Maldives may fade and yellow significantly so I would be only wish to buy it in a bag that would get infrequent use.

Like Heather123, I too have teal, a Day bag from Spring 2005. It has lightened, but insignificantly. I live in Southern California, and the only real preventive measure I take is to cover my bags during long car trips, as they lay on the seat.

It may be that the teal color is particularly intense. It is actually more a light/medium blue. Honestly though, I think that all the bright colors will fade, especially if left lying in sunlight. My truffle Day faded within months of buying it. Luckily the lighter shade is actually prettier IMO. When I wanted its new tassels to match, I laid them out in the sun for one hour on each side, and they lightened a full shade.

I would buy what I love, and enjoy it. Just condition it, and take some precautions during prolonged sun exposure. Good luck!

I bought a Blue Layette City and finally decided to exchange to a Black City instead. I read a lot about blue fading to yellowish. I don't mind fading but I do mind turning yellow. Also I was so afraid to use the light color bag because it would get dirty easily.

Thank you all for your feedback! You've given me a lot to think about and I'm beginning to think I should stay clear of more Bbags

aalinne_72, thanks for your recommendations. I hate fussy handbags in general and I think if I had to continuously pamper it I will grow to resent the bag, beautiful as it may be. I'll grow to hate sunny days

sweetlust, what's AG? I'm saddened too by a lot that I've read about Bbags. The colors are gorgeous, but why do they fade/change?? I take care of my bags but I've never had to put that much work into maintaining their color. All my LVs/Chanels/etc. are still in the best shape and same colors as I first bought them. I'm worried now at what my Mandarin PT will look like in 5 years time!

heather123
, thank you. I try my best to take care of my bags but avoiding strong sunlight isn't really an option here so I need something I will get use of.

naima_melita, that's my worst fear! I don't want to spend the $$$ and then regret it. Looks like I will be avoiding lighter colors along with you. It's sad because that's what drew me to Bbags in the first place!

Jenova, wow! That's terrible! I need bags that I can use year-round so it looks like I have to stop considering light-colored bags.

Conni618, I will have to look more into the color. I too try to keep bags away from prolonged sun contact, but it's tricky when it's sunny for most of the year! I think that if I bought it, I would be too worried about it when I'm out, spoiling my time and not enjoying the bag.

Nat_Can, I've read on the forum about black bags turning green and that scared me away. I hope your bag doesn't go through those issues!

I have 3 blues, 08 turquoise, 08 eb, and 08 marine. The turquoise and eb are about a year old. I also live in a very sunny place and have no problems at all. Both of those bags look as good as when I purchased them.

I don't have any light blue bags but I have seen Skye Blue 08 fading & turning yellow in pictures & in bags that are at consignment shops where I am. I have seen 2 Turq08 yellowing so badly at the corners & in the front of the bags at a consignment shop just a couple of weeks back. One of the Turq08 was even supposedly NEW. I live on a tropical island & we get sun rays everyday, some days worse than others. So I would assume light blue do yellow & fade over time, more so in a hot climate. I think sun rays & light blue just don't get along.

fuchsiafirefly, thanks! I'm glad you haven't had any issues with your bags. Do you do anything special to take care of them other than avoiding sun exposure?

pinkboudoir, omg! That's terrible! Okay, definitely not getting the bag despite my love for the color :(

I too am in love with the Blue colored bbags, as I have always lusted after Nicole Ritchie's 05 Sky Blue Work. I have been warned about and seen first hand the effects of aging on these lighter colored bags. With that said, sadly I think I will have to pass on purchasing one of these at full retail as I can't afford to take this risk...

No, just try to keep them out of the sun! I would love to do a survey to find out what causes the yellowing/fading. Sure sounds like there is something causing this?

Maybe if you like this color a lot get it in an accessory, like a makeup or CP?
