I loved all the photos I saw of Maldives and still want a day but I have to say after seeing the bags in person at Neimans on Monday, I am a little worried about the long term color fading. The Maldives has a lot of white veins in it. That scares me.

I've had my EB City for about a year and there's been no discoloration/fading and I seem to do all the wrong things to it. Last summer I took it to the beach with me a bunch of times, so it was in the sun for hours and I've never put any sort of protective product on it, but it's fine.

1) For all current blue Bbag owners, have you noticed a significant change of color in your Bbag? Yes, I haven't seen a lot of colour change in my Electric Blue, but have totally in Blue India, Sky Blue and even 05 Turquoise. Sky Blue especially has both faded and turned a yellow hue. For that reason I totally stay away from blue bals now, other than the ones I listed above. I am willing to give Granny a try because it already has yellow undertones.
2) How long have you had your blue bbag & does it see much sun?I don't remember how long I have had my blues, Cornflower I bought first and it has faded, but I stopped carrying it because I noticed the fading. 3) Will a BBag in the Maldives color be a good long-term purchase or will I regret it as time strips the color away? If this is your first Bal and you will carry it and carry it, then I would advise something more durable. If this is one bag in a much larger collection, you just love the colour and can shield it more, then I would go for it. |

![]() Depends on how much you're obsessed with the Maldives colour as well. We all know we don't really follow rationale when obsessed... ![]() Good luck!! |

Spray with Shining Monkey on your light bags and they will not fade. I did with my sky blue handbag but didn't with my wallet. The bag hasn't faded but the wallet started to. I think Shining Monkey protects the color from UV. I also sprayed it on my Louis Vuitton leather and it stays like new even with heavy use. It lets the leather breath and doesn't add smell, shine or anything, just invisible protection. Look up in the forum for it.

I have a sky blue part time, an 08 turquoise coin purse, and an electric blue work. The only one that's shown any signs of discoloration is the sky blue. I've had her for a year and if I look very very very hard I can just barely see some yellowing, but other than that it's in great condition. I condition all my bags with Apple Guard conditioner - it's super easy to put on, and I live in sunny Texas so they're with me in the sun a lot. I'm planning on getting Maldives because the color is simply gorgeous, and I'll just condition it like normal and not baby it and see how it goes.

Thanks all for your feedback! I recently saw a sky blue Bbag that had yellowed and I was horrified! I haven't managed to locate giant folder in Maldives so temptation is being kept at bay by that and the memory of the unfortunate Bbag.

1) For all current blue Bbag owners, have you noticed a significant change of color in your Bbag?
I have 07 Ocean and Vert D'eau (which is more green than blue, but judging from the pictures it looks similar to Maldives), and I have not seen a change in color on either bag. Neither has faded or yellowed. 2) How long have you had your blue bbag & does it see much sun? I've had both since they came out in 2007, so about 2-3 yrs. I keep them hanging in my dark room (not in their dust bags!), and sometimes they will be sitting on the kitchen counter, which is sometimes sunny depending on if the blinds are open. Overall I would say they don't have too much or too little sun b/c they are the two bal's I use the least. My other's see the sun alot more. 3) Will a BBag in the Maldives color be a good long-term purchase or will I regret it as time strips the color away? I'm not too familiar with this color... but some of these pale colors have a knack for yellowing or fading over time (some don't - like I said my Vert D'eau hasn't). Also, color transfer can be an issue - esp. if you wear a lot of heavily dyed fabrics or dark denim. It definitely won't be as headache free as a darker color would be. With that said, my white, sandstone and vert d'eau bal's all look fantastic. |

I have 3 blue bags. I moisturize and rain protect with Apple, I also immediately use LMB handles only right when I get a new bag. I haven't noticed much fading except for maybe the corners and thats from use. Also I keep my bags covered with a towel on the car seat if its sunny out. If you get the maldives color spray it and try to keep it out of the sun as that is the big enemy of these bags!

I have 2 blues, 08 Marine SGH PT & 08 EB SGH Work for almost a year now. I've not noticed any change of color on both & I live in Hawaii where it's sunny almost all year round. Maybe because I treat them w/ AG & rotate my bags. The colors are still awesome deep blues.

Thanks everyone for all the feedback & useful info. This was an old thread but how fitting that someone chose to revive it as I was considering the delicious 2010 blues coming out.

Hi, I'm totally new to these Bal bags but I've fallen hopelessly in love with the Maldives color... sorry if these questions have been answered already but I couldn't find them...
I've only ever seen this color with giant hardware - are there any Maldive bags with regular hardware? Also, is this color still readily available, or is it already 'over' and hard to find? Thanks! |
