Why does Bal give a leather swatch sample but no tassels?

I was just wondering why they removed the extra tassels but give a leather swatch. Does the swatch serve a purpose?

I think they stopped including extra tassels with the regular hardware bags b/c the giant hardware ones never came with them. I heard customers asking for tassels in the boutique when they were holding giant hardware bags since the distinction wasn't necessarily obvious when you're shopping and see a difference in what's included with the new bags.

I've also heard that Balenciaga changed the glue that holds the tassel pieces together, making them double-sided, since many seasons that glue didn't hold up and the tassels split into single-sided fringe. Personally I like the single sided b/c it's more like the original bags from 2001 & 2002 so I never minded if the tassels would separate.

Anyways, I wouldn't be surprised if some (but less than before) new tassels split b/c gluing huge sheets of leather together and cutting them into strips isn't likely the most exacting and perfect process. I would think if there's even just a small area that's missing glue it could eventually split, even just partially. Also I would imagine that oils and/or chemicals in treatments could degrade the adhesive and cause it to lose its stickiness over time.

That's what I think makes the most sense since a huge percentage of Balencaiga's customers are not bag fanatics like us here at the Purse Forum. We're just the most vocal and passionate ;o)

I heard the leather swatch was for import/export purposes to test the material if necessary. It seems a little risky to me since it could allow fake-makers to get closer to the actual colors produced each season. The closest to real looking fakes are using Italian tanneries for their leather and have made the bags pretty darn close when you aren't examining them either in person or aren't experienced with all the little things Balenciaga adds and changes throughout the years to stay one step ahead of the fakes. The fake bags never get all the little details right though, so remember to purchase from reputable sources listed here and use the authentication services on the forum when browsing the auction sites.

Really silly question about the swatch but I wanted to ask if others got their swatches in a little pouch made out of a stiffish white fabric.

Mine came in either a clear cellophane square, or a thin, white styrofoam packet square
