Default One of the best fakes I have ever seen...
I bought this bag on Ebay just to discover it was a fake. I couldn't tell for the life of me for the first minute, but the color seemed like it was almost painted on and it just felt different. But, are those things usually visible via photos? No. Let me ask you gals... Can you tell the difference? You have to look closely...

Beware!

Sorry to hear you bought a fake. I can't tell good fakes from real Bals so I'm the last one to comment on this one. How did you catch it? Were you able to get your money back?

What color did it sell as. It doesn't look like any color Bal has ever had. The rivets are totally off. That is when you want to see all pictures. Did they sell you something that looked real and then ship a fake?

Wow, I think it looks pretty good for a fake. Yes, the color looks off, but if you are bidding on a bag, and you think the leather looks good, you might attribute the color being off to that person's camera.

Yes, the rivets are off. But the leather looks pretty damn good. At least in the photos.

thanks for all the detailed photos - it reminds all of us that the fakes can be pretty good, and we all need to continue to watch for fakes!

Wow, that's a good fake, of the same breed as the fake 04 green makeup I once received. Based on photos alone, the biggest tell-tales are the absense of leather strip in the inside of the outside pocket, and the signature tallish font on the tag, and the missing "." between "Balenciaga" and "Paris". Metal on the zipper pull also looks too shiny, although I don't think I would have ever noticed that. Ther other details are more tellings.

edit: Actually, not all Days have the leather strip inside the pocket. I think older ones may be missing it. I need to check at home tonight.

umimaddicted, they didn't specify a color other than light beige; it was a watch seller so I figured he didn't know much about handbags anyways but that it might be authentic. I took the risk because they have a 3 day return policy (they are a watch store). He didn't know.

But the reason why I am posting this is because I am so very amazed at just how identical these fakes can look like. It's unbelievable. Even the Lampo zipper parts are identical, and I even measured each part against each other - all identical! Unbelievable! The only thing that gave it away was, as umimaddicted mentions, the rivets, the inside front pocket not having the leather lining, the missing dot between the two words on the tag, the "rounded" raised hardware, the shiny ring for the zipper pull, and the model number being incorrect. But how in the world does one expect to capture all of this?

This is my first time touching a Bal fake and I realize, nothing beats the feel of a real Bal. But the feel... is something one cannot capture.

lovelygarments - yes, my sentiments exactly re: the colors being off potentially being understood as camera lighting. And decophile - indeed you are right, the "dot" in between the two words! My response crossed your post. One really has to look!

THE POCKET AND THE RIVETS ARE A DEAD GIVEAWAY. THE VERY BOTTOM OF THE BAG LOOKS OFF TOO? AND DEFINITELY THE HARDWARE!
SORRY TO HEAR! HOPE YOU CAN GET YOUR MONEY BACK?

I hope you get your money back. Thanks for the wonderful comparison pics. This thread deserves to go into the ATB section "How to authenticate a Day bag"...Interesting to note the same old rules apply when authenticating Day bags:

1. Notches on rivets
2. Style numbers on back of leather tag
3. Rivet hood shape

Sheesh, even this fake had the tassel rings soldered together!

p.s. I am always a little wary of listings that only state a basic colour (eg. "beige" or "red") instead of the official Bal colour name...

woops, this is the pic i meant to repost...
DECO is right, DAy bags had no leather on the inside of the front pocket on the S/S 05 bags, i think the leather strips showed up in the f/w 05's...

Wow, the Fakes are getting better. I have a hard time telling the difference. The only thing I noticed were the rivits, but I would have probably believed it was authentic, because I'm not that knowledgable about details on BBags. Sorry, you got taken, I hope you can get your money back.
