Hi Ladies,

I'm thinking about buying a bbag from eBay - but what if the leather is dry? I'm an absolutely Balenciaga-beginner without knowledge and I'm wondering, if dry leather would be bad and "irreparable" or easiliy to be reconstructed

Please help me!

I bought my first Balenciaga on eBay. It was a great price and excellent quality. Just to be on the safe side, I bought some leather conditioning/protective spray and it looks beautiful. I was very lucky with my Bbag, but maybe others are less so. It's important to ask questions about leather quality and other details (there's a lot of great info here). I researched here for months before I purchased anything. However, I think eBay sometimes gets a bad press. Although there are loads of fakes there, there are also loads of great bags. And don't forget, those high-end Bal bags vary greatly in quality and appearance details themselves. Why wouldn't somebody purchase a 'mirror image' Bal bag? When it comes right down to it, if quality/appearance is excellent enough the bag will be essentially Balanciaga. Designer bags are not nuclear bombs. The materials really are out there, for talented manufacturers. The differences between genuine Bal bags suggest to me that Balenciaga simply source whatever leather they choose to at any given time. Good luck with your eBay bag, mirror or not!

heather123, thank you so much for you great answer!
To be sure I'll ask the seller some questions about leather quality, thickness and dryness - but this won't be a security.. what IF the leather is dry? Can one condition it with a kind of lotion or something like that?

And I don't know what you mean by the mirror-thing (my english is not so well).

Hugs! *yve*

Sorry to confuse you, *yve*. By 'mirror-image' I meant bags which have been copied from the originals in every detail. You may not want one of those, but it is possible to find excellent examples, on eBay and elsewhere. You can condition Bal bags with sprays and creams. Several ladies here give excellent advice on those in the Balenciaga 'care and maintenance' thread. Apple Garde is mentioned a lot. But I live in Ireland and have not seen this product. However, there are many equally good products. If there's a leather goods store near you, they will help and recommend something. You may even find a good leather spray or cleaner at your local supermarket. Balenciaga bags are made of goatskin, which is supposed to be very light in weight. The Bal bag (Motorcycle) I bought on eBay is very light and comfortable on my shoulder. If you buy on eBay, enquire if the seller will allow you to return a bag that is unsuitable. I find good sellers usually do. Hope this helps, and good luck with your purchasing!

^^ welcome to the bal-forum sweetie!!!...don't worry about buying a b-bag with dry leather...conditioning it with a moisturizer like "apple conditioner" will soften it right up...there are lots of threads in this section about the different products...you want to make sure to use one without mineral oil

OP: Try some Apple Guarde spray in the purple can- it has oils that make your bag ooooooooberly soft and lovely!
