A patch on the bottom of my bag became so dry that it cracked and just flaked away to form a hole!! The white part is the lining showing through.
DSC07558a.jpg Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone have suggestions as to where I can get this repaired, or if it's even worth repairing, price-wise? |

Yikes! I've never seen anything like that. How long have you had the bag? Did you buy it from a Balenciaga retailer or -bay? Maybe you can go to the store you bought it from and see what they offer? I don't think it was so much of a conditioning/dryness problem, as it was perhaps a manufacturing defect. Leather shouldn't peel away from the lining like that.
As for repair, I don't know how much it'd cost to patch that up, but I'm sure someone else will post some more helpful info. Good luck!

I bought it new about a year and a half ago from BalNY. The area around the hole is very dry, and in the picture, you can see the leather puckered around the dry area. The leather on rest of the purse is normal. I was really surprised at how fragile this bag is, given the $$$. This is a 2005 metallic rose, one of the first to be made using agneau (instead of chevre), as far as I know? I wonder if the agneau is more delicate?

As far as I know, Agneau is more delicate. I know the Chanel bags made of agneau stain and wear, that's why when I get Chanel I get Caviar leather only. The others, too hard to keep nice.
That pic is really shocking though. Why that one spot? I would try to get them to take it back. That looks like a flaw. |

That pic is shocking! At first I thought it might be fake but since you say you got it at Bal NY it's definitely authentic AND seriously flawed, you better email them with this pic and ask for a refund or exchange...

Renayams, just looking at your picture as a person who works daily with fabrics, leathers, fiber dyes etc, it looks to me both from the position of the splits on the bottom of the bag,and from the puckering around the edges of the split, that something leaked on to the bottom of your bag either in the store, in the manufacturing system or in use..something drying to leather..certain liquids cause just such a puckering around the edges and then an 'eating through' of leather fibers in the center of the damage causing splits and a decayed appearance..if nothing like this happened in your care, then certainly it happened in the store when the bag was placed down on a puddle or damp spot of glass-cleaner, or something containing alcohol, ammonia or another drying agent..so sorry that this happened to your beautiful Rose Metallic..hope that you can get your money back or a replacement bag.

Quilter is right. You or someone at the store before you bought could have left your bag on a spot that has alchohol content say toner/nail polish remover(coz it is probably scent free & clear, it would go unnoticed). Poor bag could have sat & absorbed into the leather which killed leather over time. While the results are not instantaneous, over time it is detrimental esp to leather. I am sorry it happened to you. Hope BalNY is able to do something for you.

Wow! That's drastic!!! At least we know what probably caused it, thanks to quilter and pinkboudior. I sure hope that you can get it taken care of, either as a replacement, a refund, or a fix. Be sure to keep us posted as to what happens! Good Luck!

Yeah I can definitely see a dried patch on there around the torn spot.

If something like this did happen, would conditioning it have helped stop the damage from getting that far??
