Try S.O.S first. It is made by GlobalCare and you have to buy it from someone who sells from Market America. Maybe Google it. My sister sells MA and I get it from her. It gets rid of every single smell hands down. You just spray and air dry. I have used it for every preowned bag that I get that has any icky smell.

Hi Betnyp,
your thread is truly amazing.
I read it from back to front, most recent posts first. If not for your photos documenting the steps of your project I would never have believed that washing a bag was possible. I thought that the bag's texture would change, and probably be wrinkly and buckled. I also thought that the colour would become streaky and lose it's uniformity.
What about the handles, did they change colour, lighten up at all? Did you try to get some of the discolouration out of the handles?
I'd love to give this a go on my own bordeaux, but unfortunately, I haven't got the gots. Congratulations, you were willing to go where others feared to tread, and thanks for the pics to prove it.
Enjoy your 05 bordeaux, I love mine too.

I just bought a used Bal that has a pretty strong smell on it. I've tried the baking soda and now am using activated charcoal. I'll try the clay litter method also but one month is indeed a long wait. =/
