Excellent thread! I'm really happy it turned out well. I am a big believer in DIY and agree that everything was done correctly here. Smells are one of those things that can ruin a bag...but can be fixed with the right procedure. Congrats on a good job!

Your bag looks amazing!!!

I have yet the need to wash and rejuvenate one of my bags, but when I do, I'll feel confident having read this thread to do so!

GREAT JOB GIRL!

Gosh, I've just come back to this thread. The photo of the bag in the sink of water was a little terrifying, but what a fantastic result! The little bag looks wonderful.

Thanks all, for the kind responses! and I was only brave b/c of Quilter's & Kristen's success- they were the brave ones :) To answer your question, Nicole- I would say I put about a full cap in and filled sink...it was probably more sudsy than I intended, but I just rinsed it really well. I am still very happy with the results (it smells SO good!) but think it may need another round of moisturizing and maybe some shine restore..

Gorgeous!! I wish I had the same courage. Has anyone tried this on a light colored bag? I have a 2005 Sky Blue Day bag that I'd love to clean. The leather is still soft and smooshy after her bath?

Looks great! While reading the beginning of this, I figured it would be OK. I have washed many leather products before and they were fine. The bag was smelly and dirty and not usable anyway... I would have taken the chance too! LMB is good, but very expensive.

I wash my Uggs all the time. I wash them in the washing machine on "hand wash" with Woolite. Then let them air dry. When they are 90% dry, I toss them into the dryer on AIR DRY (NO HEAT) with some dry towels and it softens the leather back up and removes the rest of the moisture. You can wash those sheepskin rugs like this too. Works fine!

Wow, great to know on the uggs!

Yay! It worked, I'm so happy for you and your bag! It probably smells even better than new now!
