Powder, do you happen to know of anyone who still sells the non-aerosol? I've been trying to find some because I feel more comfortable using a pump spray since it seems that they usually give off less fumes. I contacted Kevan who owns Luggage and Leather, which is where I order my Apple products from, and he said that the pump was discounted and he no longer has any in stock.

I got the same answer from leatherstuff.com.

The only LMB product that I use is the one for handles and I can't really say that does any better than the Apple conditioner and Guard.
now i don't know anything about LMB products but perhaps you should have tried a hair dryer or something? maybe the shine restore needs some heat to get it from a film to a layer of shine? i've read about some people doing this.

I guess you are correct. I went to the site and it's no there any longer. DARN! They should have kept that since the other can't be shipped as easily. I still have a full bottle of it, I never used it. When they have their sales I stock up because I use it on my leather seats in my car too.

I did use a dryer. I did exactly as it said. It messed my bag up. I believe the new shine restore doesn't need a dryer, but I'm not putting any of that stuff on my bags. The conditioner also wanted to lift color. I've never seen color of the bag on any white rag that I've use with Apple products. Also I don't like the smell and they tend to separate in the containers if you don't use them up right away. Everyone has their preferences, I like Apple.

Default APPLE Guard and leather conditioner

I found this info when I was trying to find the AG in the non aerosol spray. I thought it might be useful in this thread:

To maintain its beauty and other desirable qualities, leather requires frequent conditioning to replace the natural lubricants lost during normal use. With the proper care, leather can be protected from excessive dryness that can cause it to crack, and from moisture that may cause it to swell or mildew.

Because unprotected leather is susceptible to spotting from water and other liquids, a newly purchased leather item should be treated immediately to help prevent permanent stains from occurring.

Of the numerous Hardwick & Stone formulas, none is more popular or better suited for the care of leather than our leather conditioner formula. Packaged under the Apple Leather Care label this formula is truly unique. It outperforms all other leather conditioner on the market today.

What makes our leather conditioner so special? The following are the features and benefits of this unique formula:

Wax free. Since there is no wax in the formula, there is no buildup on the surface of the leather. This is especially important as leather must breathe.
No caustic chemical ingredients. Unlike other products, our leather conditioner will not deteriorate leather or stitching nor pull color from the leather.
No animal fats. Our leather conditioner can be used on the most sensitive leathers without darkening the leather or pulling color. Thus, it can be used on deerskin, exotic leathers such as ostrich, as well as cowhide. Most competitive products will darken leather.
No oily residue. Since it does not leave a surface residue, our leather conditioner will not stain clothing or any other items that come in contact with treated surfaces.
Thorough conditioner. Our leather conditioner prolongs the life of the leather by lubricating the fibers of the leather.
If you have not tried our leather conditioner, please do. You can safely use it on baseball gloves, footwear, leather furniture, handbags, leather jackets …….in fact, all smooth leather items. Do not use it on suede or nubuck.

The best time to treat a leather item is at the time of purchase. Since most leather is very dry when purchased, pretreatment is essential if you want to protect leather from staining, drying and cracking. After that, the leather should be periodically conditioned to keep the leather from drying and the fibers from cracking.

has anyone found that after the apple conditioner dries it looks like it's dirty? i'm buffing and buffing but it's not helping too terribly much. it looks like a film or a buildup of dirt on the surface and in the veins. what do i do?

edit: actually the more i buff the more my leather is looking drier and drier. what am i doing wrong?

Leather only needs rehydrating with water to 'condition' it.

If a conditioner contains none of the things that are listed above what is it actually doing?

What leather needs is to be kept clean. You can do this with a water based product which will help with rehydration. If you then protect it with a water based leather protector which will inhibit dirt and oils from being absorbed into the leather then this will prolong the life of your handbag.

The oils that are reintroduced into the leather during the tanning process are not removed during normal use or by cleaning so they do not need replacing. What leather does lose is its moisture content which makes it feel dry.

Hope this helps

Question Re: APPLE Guard and leather conditioner

I have the Hayden Harnett bag listed here: http://haydenharnett.com/index.cgi?a...Dsale_handbags

I want to protect it prior to using, but I'm unsure whether to use a leather spray or nubuck/suede. I picked up the penguin brand stuff, but I think I might need to use the nubuck...anyone?

The leather on the purse is extremely soft and smooshy, scratches easily...
