Marc Jacobs Gold Hardware - Gold Wearing Off?

Hi - I bought a vintage Marc Jacobs Collection bag (the Karen bag from Fall 2006) on eBay - it was not cheap, $820. (original retail was $1495 so it seemed reasonable) The photos provided by the seller were great and in person it seems totally legit, except for one possible problem.... the gold finish on the sides of the big snap buttons is worn and it looks like some silver from under the gold finish is showing through. I would have thought that they'd use brass under the gold finish so it wouldn't look silver-y when it wears. This is my first Marc Jacobs bag so I don't know if this is right or not. Everything else checks out - it has the right zipper, the interior is correct, the leather seems very high quality, the bag is very heavy (the gold chain shoulder strap adds a lot of weight)... etc. etc. Does anyone know anything about this? Any responses would be much appreciated.
