I just saw your post. I think you should take a look at this link. It's from Goofbay and it shows what sellers have sold. It worried me a little.

If you can get to a Cartier Shop, they probably won't tell you if it is fake or not because most boutiques have a policy that they won't authenticate. And rightly so for really old items because advisors sometimes don't really know the older stuff.
But yours is meant to be new. So you should be able to see an identical wallet in there. At the least you could ask someone how to care for it and they will either take it seriously or not. High end companies do not release information about their products usually. However, Cartier products do have a website which you could look at.
There should be stamps hidden around inside it. Cartier, like other designers would put anti-faking mechanisms in their products. You need to look for those things.
You could also post over into the eBay board. People there could give you some advice perhaps.
