Default Authenticate This Hermes Bag *Archived 07/03/2009*
This thread is for discussion on authenticity of Hermes bags.

Please follow the following rules:

  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated. This is not a thread to ask general questions about Hermes, please refer to our reference section for such information. Finally, do not submit requests for something that is obviously a fake, e.g. the item says it is a replica, or a $200 Birkin.
  • This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:

  • Authenticators are not required to answer every request, and it is their right to ignore a request that is not in the proper format.
  • Authenticators may also request additional pictures and/or information in order to assist with authentication. Please remember, it is always useful to have several close up pictures when submitting an item for authentication.

NOTE: In the absence of an auction listing (private sale situations), posters to this thread are encouraged to provide the following extra pictures, which need to be large and really sharp. It is recommended to use the macro function of the camera:

    - Front view of bag
    - Zipper & its end
    - Hardware
    - Craftsman stamp on strap
    - Hermes stamp + Top stitching
    - Clear picture of the interior lining
    - Base of the handles
    - Side view of the strap guides
  • Please do not intervene to confront a troll or rudeness on the boards, just use the REPORT function ( button) to alert the mods, and let them handle it from there. In the meantime, just ignore the poster until a mod can intervene.
  • Always be respectful when you post and treat others as you expect to be treated. This is an open thread and everyone is welcome to participate.
  • Do NOT PM an authenticator or moderator to request authentication. Any and all such requests must be posted in this thread.

Sorry. It's not an Hermes bag. (seller did say it's a Kelly style bag and didn't say it's Hermes) And bear in mind that there are scammers who will come out typically to justify that a bag looks such and such, because it's vintage. There are real lovely vintage H bags out there, but this is not one of them.

Your question >> You can most certainly get a H bag redyed but the results may be dismal. And once it's done, Hermes craftsmen won't want to touch it again.

Hope this helps.

Default Sketchy Hermes
Hey, I found this bag in a flea market. I can't find any official Hermes markings, but it does have the huge H on the front. There's a small gold seal on the inside, as well, but i cannot read it. I was wondering if it is a real Hermes, and if not what is it?

One of the great things about this format is that you can plug in the listing number and see if it has already been discussed. This was discussed on the old authentication thread:

Hi Gina,
I don't know about the Picotin, but I recognize the seller's name and think he/she had a bag recently evaluated on the now archived thread. Someone else here will know or will be able to give you a useful opinion.
The BJ Birkin is authentic and the seller is reputable but be sure you are OK with the wear (the handles in particular) and given this bag's markings, it is unclear whether it is eligible for "spa" services at H stores.

There were some discussions about this seller this past summer, I can't remember the specifics, maybe if you go back to the archived thread you can find more, but I remember feeling very uneasy about some of the bags that were offered, am not feeling super comfortable with this one although others may feel differently; and I would probably not take a chance here. Just my opinion though.

I first noticed this Picotin in Oct08. And this is a re-listing. I can't find anything that would suggest issues with its authenticity, except that my eyes picked up on the unlined interior of the bag. I have a Picotin in the exact same size, and yes, it's also unlined. This one is more 'furry' . And I can't suggest a reason why that may be so.

The reseller also has a 25cm Birkin for sale. I looked at that. Makes me unsure about this seller.
