I would love to learn how to make jewelry but how can I learn it? Do I take classes, find some videos, get DIY books? What is the best way-any advice?

I think you should start with You Tube videos and get some books from the libraries first...you will find tons of information and more than enough to get your started :)

After you can start thinking about taking a class if you are REALLY interest :)

Good luck!

i had someone teach me the basics and then if i wanted to learn how to do something else i either figured it out myself or found tutorials online.

classes would be a great start. around here there's a bead store that offers many classes, once of them being basic wiring.

Do you have any rough Idea in your ineterst or would you be starting all new.
there is a lot to learn in this sphere but it is not very difficult.
give us a rough Idea as to what Kind of jewellery lessons are you looking for and we can take it from there. You will be surprised at how much you you could learn for free online.

Agree that you can learn a lot from youtube, magzines, online, etc.

I was very interested in the jewlery side, so I took a one week intensive course in London, UK while travelling with my husband, when he was on a business trip there....I had since made some really nice metal silver clay pendants and charms for my family and friends as X-mas gifts....although it was not cheap, both the course and the material. I find it a lot of fun though.

I agree what type of jewelry do you want to make? Most start off threading beads on thread or chain and evolve from there. If your interested in doing wirework and such you should get some good tools, pliers, round nose pliers and cutters. Personally i would recommend going to a hobbie/beed shop just to look around get ideas and maybe talk to the sales staff they can probably help point you in the right direction.

There are many sites online that have free tutorial streams, retail suppliers as well as YouTube. Go for it and good luck! I love making jewelry!

The first ingredient is the fantasy...if you have this, the most important thing is done.
Then...all the rest...from simple materials used for handmade jewelry, to high-end jewelry made with advanced 3D program...

fantasy and curiosity to learn... ;-)

Fashionably me :)
My Fiance` mom and sister in law started making jewelry first so I sorta learned from them, other than that I just watched videos on YT and bought some books and self taught myself. It's saved me a lot of money on jewelry by making my own

Great topic, thank you for posting and replying with such useful information. So often I find myself not quite liking something, but almost, so I'm starting to make my own jewelry. I'm very new, so everything is ultra simple, and frustrating -- those little loops of wire at the top of an earring...

If you'll join a jewelry making focused group or forum online, you'll learn a lot from the members.
