^Great tip Oscarcat! I've started keeping a little documents folder on my computer and save a picture everytime I like it for inspiration. I'm kind of the opposite of you and love neutrals, but don't want it to be boring, KWIM?

I don't love this after picture, it makes them look really blotchy and bad, they look a lot better in person! :)

To do this project I went to a 'restore' and bought an identical cabinet door to mine (for like $3) and then picked up some different types and shades of stain. I did a few practice rounds on that door, and decided to use a stain/polyurethane mix.

So for the actual doors I had to sand like crazy (with really fine sandpaper) until I felt like I had removed the top layer and then wipe each one down with a clean wet rag to get rid of the dust. Then first coat of stain goes on, (you don't have to wipe this kind off) after 6 hours I sanded each one again, this time with steel-wool to remove imperfections. Then the second coat goes on and after that is dry you can put it all back together.

I also bought all new hardware for about $3 each so the entire project only costs about $125!

Sorry if that is way too much detail..just thought I would include it all in case anyone was curious?

Oh wow, great cabinets! This is exactly what I want to do, but seriously, we have 50+ cabinets, doors and drawers in our kitchen (it's insane how much storage we have) so I'm thinking of just hiring someone to do it

Ours are the same color as your "before" color... but the problem is, so are our hardwood floors... that's the part that drives me so crazy, everything just blends into one ugly light wood color in here..... but I'm wondering - will dark cherry cabinets look ok with light floors? (eventually we will replace the floors, but not for many years)
