Okay - the bedroom was white walls with a hideous floral border about 6 inches above normal chair rail height and blue stenciled ribbons around the top of the wall all the way around. Mini blinds with about an inch of orangey nicotine stains and floral cafe curtains and mauve pee-stained carpeting.

Thanks everyone for your kind words..
Here is a picture of my reading area. I faux'd the back wall and used a Stencil across the top with plaster type material to make it dimensional. I am not sure that I like it. Which is why I have not finished it.
I feel that it needs something across the top- any ideas??
Trying to do the old world look..

The closet doors are still those awful bi-fold doors, but before they were white with brown stains and blue handles.

I love the color pallet. It is so calming~
My idea for our guest bedroom is painting it soft yellow and grey but I am so afraid to take the plunge!!

I love crown, though I haven't gotten around to putting it up in my house yet - LOL! And sometimes I like to paint the ceiling color about 3 - 4 inches down onto the wall - I did that in the bedroom pics I just posted. In that case, it's white, but I think it would look especially good if it were a color that coordinated, but didn't match, the walls. The first try (before I had all the cottage cheese scraped off of the ceiling) I put roping/cording up there in a color that matched my bed linins. It was actually pretty cute, but after the cottage cheese was gone, I just didn't put it back up.

Here's a shot of a spare bedroom. Before it was all pink...walls, moldings, doors, ceiling - EVERYTHING. And it had nasty blue carpeting and the same nicotine-stained mini blinds.

Hey, it's JUST paint - and JUST a spare bedroom! I posted pics of one of my spare bedrooms with yellow walls and grey and black bedding/furniture.

Here's the fireplace. The whole wall behind it was really ugly dark brick (I would never paint over pretty brick) so I painted that and built a cover to slide over the brick of the fireplace with a new mantle built in. I left the brick in tact underneath so if future homeowners wanted, they could remove the whole wood piece.

Ick that sounds gross! On the plus side, you have created a LOVELY home from what I can see in all of your pictures!!!!

I especially love your color palette with the painting from your bedroom in the second pic you posted... did you paint it or did you buy it (the painting I mean)?

Thanks! I painted it. I painted everything hanging in my house. In fact, I ran out of walls so I have them hanging all up and sown the hall like a gallery - LOL!

You can see some of them in the link in my signature.

I'm watching Myles of Style right now on HGTV, the "Ted and Larry" episode. She's doing a living room/dining room with a light blue, light green, plum, and heather grey palette-- sooooo pretty! She covered a big wall with some gold-foil and blue long rectangular sort of pictures, that get more blue and less gold as the wall gets higher. She also painted two of the walls plum-- it looks GORGEOUS!
