^^You should definitely get an size assortment of beads. from really small to as big as you want. I personally don't use spacer beads a whole lot but they do come in handy once in awhile as accents.

The musts besides beads are: jump rings, eye pins and head pins. I like to get the longer length eye and head pins because if you have any extra once you cut the ends off then you can make your own eye pin.

I went to the Intergem show this weekend, and picked up a ton of Tibetan beads. I finished putting this choker together last night.

To get started, and get a feel for what you like, I'd say start with the least expensive assortments you can find, the dollar store sometimes has little "bracelet kits" with a few different kinds of beads and some stretch cord - for a dollar!

In stores, and online, look for bargain basement prices for items sold as an "assortment" or "mix," and for spacer beads, start with some non-precious metal plain round balls in 2-3mm gold or silver "tone" - just to give you an idea of what spacer beads do.

Get yourself a bead board, they are very inexpensive, and just play around, even if you don't make anything, just get used to the process of lining things up to see how this looks and that looks.

Your own style and preferences will slowly form into friendly muses in front of your eyes - and fingers - and they will tell you what to buy next.

It may be crystals, it may be fancier spacer beads, but whatever it is, your initial investment will have been minimal, and your next purchases will be informed ones!
