Thumbs up A fresh new look.
I'll be turning 20 in December, and I feel my room needs a nice makeover done to it. Whether it be rearranging it, redecorating (with what I've got available)
I'm a college student so I commute to college because it's only 25 minutes away, so I still live at home with my family, my boyfriend is also in college but lives on campus. We have started looking at homes. Once he graduates in 2011 we'll be getting more serious about finding our own home. I want my room to look more grown up. Can you help me!?

1.) I do love the color purple, but I want to have a more grown up look with the purple still in my room.
2.) I have some pretty big furniture pieces in my room, does anyone have some pointers on how to re-arrange my room?
3.) Should I remove some pieces? Any storage tips?

I'm really open to anything so please help me!!!!
Here is my room, I took from every angle. Unfortunate I have 2 doors, one to the hallway and one to the bathroom (my desk is infront of the bathroom door)

I've always been inspired by PBTeen magazines so I love their style.

I think you need to move all of the small shelving pieces behind/beside your bed. Maybe you could have a painted headboard behind your bed?

Maybe you could tr to have one area for all of the knick-knacks. That would also give it a more grown up look. You have pretty white furniture, so maybe you could do a white painted backboard, and freshen up the room with white bedding, with touches of purple.

I don't really want to go with light bedding like white because my dog sheds black hair so I go with darker sheets so it doesn't show. I vacuum my room a couple times a week b/c of the hair. I do have a headboard to my bed but you can barely see it, it's has 3 shelves on it.

I also just removed all the little stuff that was on the shelf over top my window, wrapped then my tissue paper, put them in a box and put them in my closet, so at least that area looks a little cleaner.

i LOVE rearranging rooms!
your room is kinda like mine... something on every wall.. a door or a window or just something, so it makes it kind of limited.

one corner i can't see is the spot between the bed and your closet, is there room there to put your night stand and slide your bed over towards the closet more so that your desk can fit in the corner where you nightstand currently is?

i agree that if you want it to look more grown up then all the knick knacks need to go. when i lived with my parents my room was full of anything i could collect.

and ibet you could find a really deep dark purple for the wall colors, the white furniture would contrast it nicely.

another spot that confuses me, the dresser next to the closet and door opening, is that sort of angled and not directly against the wall?

another option (if there's room, can't tell):
swing your bed around so that it's centered on the wall with your window, put your nightstand on the side of the bathroom door and your desk in the opposite corner.

Or:
swing your bed around so that the top is against the wall where the window is, but put the bed in the corner, put your night stand next to it. get rid of the corner desk and get a small desk that will fit along the wall with the night stand. i bet you could find a really cool one at an antique mall or garage sale and paint it white to match.

Actually I have a really old vanity, that had a mirror attached to it, I took the mirror off! It's stuffed in the closet in the extra bedroom in my house. What about using that as a desk? I really don't need all that extra stuff that's on the shevles on my desk now.

I love that idea of cornering my bed!

I just hate having 2 doors to my room because it really limits what I can do, but I love rearranging my room, I probably do it too much. I'm surprised my furniture is still in tact.
I'm going to take a picture of the vanity and post it here soon.

I'd redone the walls in light grey so the purple accessories pop more. And it will go with your white furniture as well. You don't have to be all purple to show that you love purple.

Your pup is adorable! And I love purple, my entire condo (which I sadly don't live in anymore) was done in all purple hues (some very subtle).

My suggestions: remove the small shelves and mirror near the bed, and replace with one large piece of artwork above the bed. (This could be a great art project -- DIY! You can get a big canvas at an art supply store really cheap.) Maybe remove the small bedside table and replace with floating matching bedside tables on each side of the bed.

Also can you remove the shelves above your computer? I'm getting the feeling that there are a lot of knick-knacks around, and I think your room would look more sophisticated if you toned them down a bit.

Above all have fun! Your room should be your sanctuary.

i think a vanity would make a great little desk. the corner desk is just a little awkward because it can only go in two different places in your room (well technically only one if you didn't want to block the door)

Yeah I hated the corner desk, I found my old vanity and turned it into a small desk yesterday, All I really needed was a table for my monitor, speakers, mouse, and keyboard. I didn't need all the extra stuff I was using that desk for. I'll have to take pictures of what I've done with all your great ideas.

I'm excited to see what you've done. I was a bit stumped when I originally read your description, but you have gotten some great recommendations!

Here's the little bit of progress I've made, I definitely feel there's still room for improvement! I can't paint my walls, 1. Because I don't have the time what so ever to tear my room apart and re-paint it. I just want this room to hold me over till I move out. :)

For a larger headboard without the larger price tag - go look at decorative garden gates and partial fences Lowes or Home Depot to attach to the wall.

What about a new comforter for my bed? I'm so tired of looking at the one I have. I think it's ugly now. lol.
