Every single night without fail, he lays on the couch with me. But, he doesn't just lay there - for the first hour or so he licks me. He licks my toes, my feet, my legs. FOR AN HOUR! He won't lick anyone else, just me. Am I his salt lick? Is he telling me he loves me? Why does he do this?

i just have to say that i love his name. it makes me smile every time i see it.

one of my cats does this too. if i had a limb within reach of him he would constantly be licking me. very odd

They do like to lick people because our skin is salty...perhaps yours is more so than anyone else in your family?? LOL

Or maybe you're using some lotion on your skin Sizzles finds particulary yummy?

And of course, dogs just lick people cause it's something they've always done (and had done to them) since being part of a litter. Could be an affection thing with you!

Daphnie just loves to lick my hands when I put on lotion, so, no lotion in the living room. Hemi will just love on me and lick my hands and arms until I tell him to stop.

If he licks for that long it could be self soothing for him. Maybe it helps him calm down.

My dog licks us, too, but usually only for a couple of minutes.

Part of the reason he does it is because you allow him. I don't know many people that would allow a pet to lick them for an hour.
While it may start out because he likes the taste of your lotion or your skin is salty, dogs can continue licking behaviors that become obsessive. The dog will just mindless lick something without any reason, and it can also become a compulsive behavior as well.
