Poor, poor dogs. They worked so hard all of their lives and are trained to help people but then this is how they are repaid? I hope at the very least that they suffered as little as possible and that they get a decent burial. I agree that the officers who did this deserve to be punished, and severely. Two ounces of common sense will tell you not to leave any sentient being in a very hot parked car for any amount of time.
^^ I couldn't have said it better..My thoughts EXACTLY! Those poor, innocent dogs..May they R.I.P.

The thought of what those beautiful, loyal animals went through before they succumbed, is too terrible to contemplate. They place such trust in their owners too.

I was wateching this RSPC programme about warden looking checking all parked cars. One found a dog lying on the floor dead. I was shock to see that they focus on the dog dead body lying. Freakk to say the least. Poor thing lifeless body was left on display for people to guawk at.
Owner said he didn't realise leaving the dog inside a car would be fatal and gutted that he lost a member of his family. He's been charge. Don't know the outcome.
Who said ignorance was bliss?

I am so sad and my heart goes out to those two dogs. They serviced people and this is how they are repaid, with a horrible, painful death. Although the officer may not have acted intentionally, he was atleast negligent and I believe should atleast be suspended.

this is hreatbreaking...this is his service dogs! you think he would be more contenentiousof them...they help him do his job!

just today, I saw someone pull up at kinkos...i saw a dog in the car and thought..oh no! i hope he doesn't leave him...instead, he tied him to the parking meter. I can't say i agree with this (mainly b/c it's still 100 weather and I'd be afread he's be stolen or run away) but it's better than leaving him in the car. as I passed the dog pawed at me. I pet him and went my way. I was back within a couple of minutes and saw they had left...

so still...taking a dog out of the car is still an option at some places i supose

Boo! Poor dogs. They trust us to take care of them and this shouldn't happen.

This happened in AZ in 2007. The officier was SUPERVISOR OF THE CANINE UNIT. More like stupervisor. He claimed he forgot the dog was in the back of the vehicle when he took him out on an early morning detail. When the story came out, the officer had been working too many hours on too little sleep. He said he honestly thought he removed the dog from the van. When he went to get something out of the trunk 13 hours later, he found the dog dead in the back cage. The temperature was at least 108-110 on that day. The community was in an outrage. He lost his job but was found not guilty in court.

It is really a shame these dogs are not treated with respect when they would give their life for their handler in a life and death situation.

I saw a little dog in a car parked next to me today at the grocery store. The owner had left the windows open, but it was still a day with a 108 degree heat index. This dog was a fluffy Pomeranian and was panting like crazy. I took it upon myself to open up a water bottle and pour it in a lid I had and gave it to him. He drank it up in an instant and wanted more. I didn't want to tear into someone and I needed to get home so I don't know how long his human was inside. I do hope he peed all over the car as payback :) It's Texas, so why would anyone do that to a dog in the middle of summer?!

^You should have called the police and went into the grocery store to have the owner paged. Never just walk away and hope the owner will return quickly. I do hope the dog survived.
