The loonies who wanted to take him from his home should focus on the thousands of abused domesticated animals (cats, dogs etc) and providing funding for their care in shelters before attacking a well funded zoo. Yeesh.

of course the news media NEVER shows what the keepers got up and had to say...just the blatant lies the celebs had to spew. many of us had so many facts and moreless suggested that it would be nice if the AR people would instead help us spread the word about conservation and the plight of the Asian Elephants in the wild. They just turn a deaf ear. They won't even for a moment consider that they just might be wrong.

-the media is so animal-righs oriented. They have no clue. They don't find the news any more, just report what they are fed. Feeding costs money. Edward R. Murrow must be spinning in his grave.

We are all so far removed from our not so long ago agricultuaral society that we anthropomorphize animals and treat them like humans, and ascribe to them, needs, feelings and life requirements the same as a human might need.

The ARses (my term for AR, some of the Brits may like this term, lol) ) literally have among them 100 million+ dollars to influence politicians, media, etc. There are more grass-roots anti-AR us than there are AR but they are more vocal and much much more wealthy.

This Billy episode renews my faith in the Everyman, and his/her ability to organize and fight the corrupt big AR $$$$$$$$$$.

Make your voice heard by fax, phone, and visits to your legsislators. All they know is who comes to see them and who supports them financially. Show them the majority view!

L.A. is an exception in the Animal Services Division, they are SO corrupt it is sickening. And a lot of SoCal communities are followeing its lead. Am I way off base, BagnShoo? (I personally don't think so)

Anyway, Power To The People!

^^^thanks for all of that. you are spot on. we are the first zoo to ever defeat IDA (In Defense of Animals) whose name is very deceiving. They can be just as bad as PETA. I do urge everyone to support the many organizations out there that actually do make a difference and desperately need help because they don't have celeb endorsements.

Awesome news!! Congrats, Bagnshoo, Billy, and the LA Zoo team!

This thread reminds me of how long it's been since I've visited the LA Zoo..... maybe next time I'm in town I'll convince SO to take me.

You are so right. It's sad all the celebrities that whore themselves out for PETA ads and donate huge funds to such AR (ARse) groups. With the money and celebrity following these groups have, they can twist the facts and preach their lies to people who will eat up every word of it. Thank god there are still people who actually care enough for animals to fight for what's right.

^^^thats why we keepers could no longer keep our mouths shut. it seems that by sheer virtue of being a celeb, automatically means anything you say is the truth, without question. I still cannot get over the lies Cher was spewing - accusing us of electrocuting our animals was just absurd and downright slander not to mention bringing up crap that happened 30 years ago!!! She was just reading off some paper they gave her. How can you just publicly make severe statements without doing any research to make sure what you've been fed is true??? It was tantamount to me saying she beats her kids. How they get away with things like this is beyond me but its gonna stop cause we're not going to take it anymore.

I wonder if this was happening somewhere other than LA, say a zoo in like Tennessee for example, if there would have been as much of a problem?

I doubt it..

Yippee!!!!!!!!

I don't know how I managed to miss the big news, but I am so happy for Billy and all of you who never gave up, shoo! The AR fanatics can't really be thinking about the welfare of the animal to think he should be moved from what is really his home.

Rest well, shoo. A job well done.

Thanks Bmom. And thanks to everyone who offered their support and wonderful words of encouragement. It really really did help and was good to read when I was discouraged. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
