She frequently takes in rescues, provides free vet services for abandoned animals, does her best to educate callous owners - she's an intelligent and admirable woman. And she hates, HATES, PETA. One PETA action she blogs about this time of year is a scam asking people to donate money in order to provide doghouses for dogs without them. PETA takes the money, buys doghouses, then supposedly distributes them to dogs in need. What does PETA list as the cost to provide one doghouse? $265. The vet is quick to note that a quality Dogloo AND a 50 pound bag of generic food for a needy dog will run the average consumer about $50. So what is PETA doing with the extra cash? Who knows! She advocates bypassing PETA and giving that food and dogloo to a needy family in your area or donating food directly to a humane society.

--Thanks for taking the time to read it. Maybe you can PM me her blog? I'd love to see it. Yeah, I have heard about the Igloo scam.

If your friend's friend doesn't realize it yet, H$U$ is just PETA in a business suit. PETA is in concert with H$U$ because their crazy antics and lunatic demonstrations make H$U$ look moderate and reasonable. But they both have the same goals.

I don't think this is OT, because the brouhaha of Billy was over AR vs. the real animal experts

^^^no no Chessmont please continue to give all the info you have. I have discussed PETA and their terrorism in the past in this forum. I simply don't have the energy to anymore. I'm glad you do have the energy so please keep the info coming. Ingrids quotes alone are more than I can stomach.

I'm sorry I got here late.

That's good news for both you and Billy. I'm so happy for the both of you.

Um, as much as I love Bob Barker, he needs to stick to what he knows best and tell people to get their pets spayed and neutered. But he should leave the care and keeping of animals to the experts.

Question: What do the dollar signs mean in "H$U$"?

Bob Barker (and everyone else who are, for some reason, against zoos) should sit down and watch a week's worth of footage of Billy and other elephants in the zoo. They'll see that they're happy, healthy and well cared for.

Jason got really agitated when I told him about this situation, bagnshoo. He gets frustrated because people don't understand a lot of the multiple facets of these issues and jump on the "omg we have to free the naminals from the evil zoo" idea because it is sexy. I'm going to write more when I get to work...haha I have the feeling this can turn into a rant and I don't have time to write it

Thanks Honeypie.

And H$U$ stand for the Humane Society of the US. The dollar signs signify how big of a money making organization they are, how the President of the org makes 7 figures a year and how not one dime go to any animal shelters.

thanks babe.

its so funny how the truth can be twisted by anyone but people will believe ANYTHING a celebrity says. I don't get it. When some of the animal rights people were invited to come down to see Billys yard and current barn and new exhibit underway, Lily Tomlin refused to go in and look. She just stood outside. Then she had the nerve to go on t.v. and accuse us of being "Guantanamo Bay". She's a nutbag. I guess she's bored cause she has nothing to do right now. A few months ago, she had some eucalyptus trees cut down from her property line and her next door neighbor complained and said she was killing the trees for vanity purposes and was suing her. Well she didn't like that. She said an arborist told her the trees were going to collapse if she didn't cut them down. So Lily, how does it feel to be accused of something by someone who does not have all the facts?
And to think - I was marching in the Writers Strike picket lines with her just months ago....

Bagnshoo, good luck with everything and keep us posted. Billy is adorable! I'm confident he's being well taken care of.

Just out of curiosity, what do you do at the LA Zoo? I figured you worked with animals since I would always see them in your avatars, but I never knew you worked at the zoo. That's too cool!

Are those the same people that are filing this lawsuit right now?

I'm an animal keeper at the zoo.
