Way to go, aarti! Hope you find the Mulberry of your dreams (personally, I'd rather go for the Queen Bee Trucker )

LOL thanks back for caring for the pets- everyone here is BEYOND amazing. SO articulate, sharp. Women of ACTION! What an amazing thread. I'm awed by all of you!!

I'm online trying to find a local shelter that is in need of my time. I should work with the local feline rescue that I got my cat from. I'm experienced with cats so I will start there. See what's in your neighborhood rescue or shelter-wise if you have a few hours. Maybe I can channel my new menopauser beyotchski- on- wheelz energy into something useful
I think instead of hot flashes I got thinning hair and sometimes kinda krazee. But in a good way.
My stepkid says I'm spazzy and lovable. LOL

I can't tell you how much it means to me to be in the company of animal lovers like this.

I am a blubbering mess today. I simply do not know enough people - I have not been able to get one dog or cat adopted and it's not for lack of trying! Maybe someone I told will know someone. I don't have a wide circle and no family.

I can't help in that way, either, since I'm stuck over here. You can only do your best!

Please don't beat yourself up over it.

NO response from any of the W VA stations I emailed. I expected as much.
Ditto.

I got FLAGGED on craigslist. People have nothing better to do than flag someone who is trying to help pets.

What? Losers (and I don't use that word lightly)!!!

I have a lot on my plate right now and I am not feeling well so excuse me if I am a true spaceshot (withdrawing from medication and it is kicking my menopausal butt)

Oh dear, I hope you feel better soon.

but can one of you dears answer

Q's: Are the cats in the LA shelter gone (put down)now? Would they transport? would take one of 2. I worry about FelV etc with my healthy cat though.

We're not sure, their photos are still on the website, but a volunteer said she didn't think they were still there.

Please can someone in the US ring them, ASAP, to try to find out for sure?

-Are the Paw paw animals in fact spared til July 1?

Apparently, so!

Quote:
-Is anyone from the PF adopting any animal(s)?

There have been murmerings, but I don't know for sure.

Hopefully they'll let us know.

Quote:
-My offer stands to help transport, I can go as far south as PA and then up to Maine or VT - if you live in NEW ENGLAND and want a pet please please PM me!! I can meet whoever will ferry animal to PA at your arranging.

They seem to have an arrangement, where one person drives a short way, then another takes over.

So, anyone, wherever they are in the US, can adopt!!!

much love to all you women after my own heart for your action

Much love to you for letting us know, kitskats!!!

i am going to have to volunteer now at the shelter, i will look into it when i am feeling better

Fantastic!!!

Don't rush into it too soon and make yourself worse, though.

Kitskats, good for you about volunteering - I've never volunteered at any shelter (esp Cat Welfare Society). HIgh time I did so (but then I've been saying that for the last twenty years :()

In Singapore many of us live in Housing & Development Board flats (ie we are not all that well off, but we get by) and the Government does not allow residents of HDB flats to keep cats! Toy dogs, yes, but no cats! Cats rule but the Government doesn't think so!

As mentioned, Humane Society is a scam, they claim to be no-kill but that's simply not true. Also beware of local SPCA groups, some of them aren't no-kill, either!
Way to go, Chiara! What are the names of your kittens? Any pics, please?

OK, well, once again, I'm well and truly spent!

So, I'm going to have to say 'bye, bye'!

Please can everyone keep up the good work and ring the LA shelter?

Also, please remember that these animals are still on death row, as are animals in your state!

If you can foster, or adopt, please do! You won't regret it!!!

Thanks so much to everyone! You're all amazing!!!

Can I just quickly say, before I collapse(!), how fantastic, eloquent (in a foreign language! ), tireless and supportive you are, passerby!

I don't think I'm in too much danger of being stalked, then!!!

Ponce & Cleopatra, they are my world.

Here's the Lafayette "shelter" info: 337-291-5645
The volunteer who maintains the photos is rescuerealtor@cox.net

Please call, and see my other post in writing to the town council about their policies!

Wow-you learn something every day. Another silly rule - cats are so clean unless humans don't clean their litterboxes!! And most cats are so fastidious that if they could, I swear they would clean their own litterboxes. Between naps of course

I posted about the shelter on a forum in the US, don't think I was rude or anything but have just found that the thread has been removed, and that my username apparently isn't registered there.

Shall try to refrain from swearing. Will not post there again since there are other forums to post on!

Great names, especially Ponce!!

When I was little (centuries ago - or rather 40 years ago), we were very very poor but somehow managed to keep three cats at the same time - Architect, Engineer and Lawyer.

Guess who went round stealing food?

Would you mind reposting your email to the Town Council (I want to copy it! OK, change it a little) No probs if you don't wish to do so, chiara. Thanks.

I read this last year:

Quote:

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred
to him that he was dead.

He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the
road was leading them.

After a while, they c ame to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.

When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl,
and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as
he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.

When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"

"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.

"Wow! Would you happen to have some wa! ter?" the man asked.

"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ic e water brought right up."

The man gestured, and the gate began to open.

"Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.

"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."

The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going
with his dog.

After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence.

As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.

"Excuse me!" he called to the man. "Do you have any water?"

"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in."

"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog.

"There should be a bowl by the pump."

They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pum p with a bowl beside it.

The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog.

When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.

"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.

"This is Heaven," he answered.

"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too."

"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell."

"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"

"No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind."
