If this centre is nearer to you, perhaps you could consider rehoming one, or two, of these, instead.

You will have to be very quick off the mark and call first thing this morning, or it will be too late.
I just called this shelter to express my outrage at how they could just murder these beautiful creatures. The lady gave me the number for Lafayette city council(the facility is gov't run). I asked if the kitties were still there, she said she didn't think so. I am so upset right now. I called the council, and the lady told me to e-mail council members, so I will. Anyone else who is interested, please e-mail ndugas@lafayettegov.net maybe we can stop this from happening in the future.

Edit: in your e-mail, make sure to mention that you would like all 9 council members to receive a copy of your message. Together we can make a difference!

Thanks so much, ET!!!

I see two of the most urgent, Dylan and Mackenzie, are still there!

Are you saying that they killed them?

Edit: Don't worry chiara, I'll assume they did; after all they said they would. I guess I just hoped that they would be a little slower off the mark.

I'm sitting here sobbing as I write my e-mail. I can't believe that this is still going on here. It's sad, the lady on the phone at the shelter didn't seem to care, it was all in a day's work.

Please, those of you that pray - say a little prayer for these innocent souls, and pray each day for an end to this.

There are facilities all over that euthanize. SPCA in TX, as well as local gov't run shelters immediately come to mind. There are surely dogs there with a similar plight. Please go adopt one of them. They will be forever grateful, and the love you receive from them is immeasurable!

I like how this place is still being referred to as a 'shelter'. What a term for a place that would kill animals so casually.

chiara, some of them are still on the link, so it looks like they may have put-down some of them, but not all:

http://search.petfinder.com/shelterS...ort=&preview=1

There was a very sweet little puppy on there, too, I wonder what happened to him? I pray that someone took him and at least some of the cats.

It seems so ridiculous that, something tiny like a 1/64 cent in the dollar increase in local taxes (I'm guessing), would probably mean that they could build enough shelters and this would never need to happen again.

Animal shelters, especially run by volunteers, can't be that expensive, can they?

The US seems to be such an animal loving nation (possibly even more than the UK) and so many people adore their pets and yet this can happen to them, all over the country, every day?

I don't get it.

I know, sweetheart. I've been crying, on and off, for a day and a half, now.

These people have had to become inured to it, I guess.

We must all remember that the other animals at Paw Paw are still there, for now and desperately need a new home, or they will be next!!!

Those were exactly the kitties I saw this morning. I pray that they are all still there and someone helps them. Some day I hope to start my own facility and rescue these beautiful creatures, but until then I just have to do all I can to help. As for the expense of running a shelter, I think the gov't here needs to stop giving so much welfare/medicaid to those who refuse to work and start giving it to the animals. People can help themselves, animals can't.

Most people can, true.

To be fair, some people have things like depression and other relatively 'minor' psychological/psychiatric conditions that can prevent them from being able to work.

Because the condition is relatively 'minor'; sometimes you can't tell just by looking at them.

The sad thing about animal shelters is that the funding for them is so minimal. They simply cannot afford to keep all these animals alive and cannot always find homes for them all. So whats the alternative? Let them starve to death? Or stop accepting new animals so they can take care of the ones they have? Its a frustrating situation. The Humane Society DOES NOT give one nickel to any local animal shelters. They are the biggest scam. Look into that for yourself. The best thing anyone can do besides adopting these little guys is to start fundraising for your local shelters and get involved in adoption days. VOLUNTEER, VOLUNTEER, VOLUNTEER! The government isn't going to do much - they have bigger fish to fry. Alot of people always say they wish they can do something - well you can. Forwarding e-mails isn't going to do it - protesting isn't going to do it - ACTION is going to do it. You need to physically go to the shelters and ask them what kind of help they need. Even if its just helping to take care of the animals - these places need bodies. Please don't sit home and cry. Get up and do something. Organize your community to put together neighborhood fundraisers - garage sales, bake sales, car washes, whatever - and give ALL the money to these places. Organize adoption days with local businesses. Do something! Most everyone here knows I am an animal keeper. I love animals. But I get frustrated when I see people not doing anything and just feeling bad. You can do something. Get up and do it!

Sorry so long. I am very passionate about this.

I completely agree, Sanguar. But what else can we call it?
