its not fair! they are such loving dogs!!
look at those lil ankle bitters! what if they were big, they could seriously hurt someone, but b/c they are small no one thinks anything of it....

(don't get me wrong, i have a small dog too, and i love her to death...but its the owners responsibility to teach whatever dog you have how to behave!!!)

sorry had to rant...

Today I was kissed on the lips by a Pit Bull at the dog park! We had just met!

I've never met an aggressive Pit Bull, but I have been kissed by many! I find it SO sad that this breed is judged harshly, and they are some of the most affectionate dogs I've ever met!

YAY to all you Pit Bull Moms!

Pit Bulls are not aggresive. It's the owners, not the dogs. It infuriates me when I hear about places banning breeds!

Banning breeds?!?! How about banning abusive, ignorant owners who TRAIN their pets to fight & be aggressive?

Yes they are. I think they are gorgeous dogs. I always watch "Miami Animal Police" on Discovery Channel, as they often show them (sadly, for bad reasons - owners breeding them for fighting).

When I had my Staffie I encountered prejudice. I found it hard to find a dog-minder, for when I went on business trips, because they assumed Staffie = aggressive. I have owned many breeds of dog and I have never known such a placid, affectionate, biddable dog. Aggression? All the Staffie owners I've met will laugh at the suggestion!

My neighbor has the most beautiful pit bull. She is so loving and gentle with kids. I also hate the stereo-typing of dogs.

I have one. Her name is Seven and she's the sweetest most affectionate dog I've ever had.

I'll always have a Pit Bull

Oh wow, small world - My dog growing up was a pit named Oliver! He was definitely, without a doubt the best dog I've ever owned. The whole neighborhood knew and loved him - especially the kids!

I've attached a pic of my Ollie (1993-2002). He's my furry angel now

ITA! Its such a shame that pit bulls have a bad name and are used for such discusting things over here in the UK (fighting).
I have seen many cross pit bull/ staff bull terrier dogs around, and guess what, they all have the stupid owners that you mentioned above. It seems to be this gang culture, where the boys have to have the most aggressive dog, kwim?
It makes me sick .

We have a dobermann and a pug, the dobies have really bad stick over here in the UK as well as rotties, again due to stupid owners!
The bigger dogs like pitbulls, dobies, rotties are soo much kinder in nature than the smaller breeds! My pug is a sweetie to me and the family but it more aggressive than our 8yr old dobie xx

They are now bringing in a law that you have to be licensed to own dobies/rotties etc, My Mum was happy about this because it stops the wrong people getting these innocent gorgeous dogs!

I love this breed. Its the bad owners that make them have such a bad rep. They are very fun & loving to have around. I have 2, Sway (white) is 3 yrs old and Munchies (blue brindle) is 9 months. Sway is Muchines mother. Great Tread.

Maybe a license will help. It will be interesting to see. It's the same here in the US w/ people thinking they are tough/gang related if they have a big, "scarey" looking dog. It's sad. My Pit wouldn't harm a fly! I love them so much. I worked at a vet clinic growing up & the majority of the time the BIG dogs were better behaved than those little ankle biters! LOL! I love little dogs too.

People who dislike an ENTIRE breed of dog are ignorant IMHO. It's a dog/owner issue, not a breed issue.

In Queensland pit bulls are no longer outlawed and the council is taking steps to monitor the owners, for example 6ft+ fences (any owner would know they are great climbers) and three-monthly inspections of the premises and meeting the dog and the owners. It is a positive step forward, I also agree with masslaw15, a licence would be great, particularly one that incorporates somthing like a psych evaluation and check on any previous animal cruelty violations.
